Uganda’s Rushaga region is home to a poignant paradox: a lush landscape juxtaposed with a marginalized community. The Batwa indigenous people, beset by socioeconomic challenges, require targeted interventions to augment their healthcare access and community support. A comprehensive volunteer program has been established to address these disparities, offering a unique opportunity for individuals to make a meaningful impact.
Through this program, volunteers will collaborate with local healthcare professionals at the Batwa Indigenous Empowerment Organization Medical Clinic (BIEOMC) to deliver comprehensive medical care and support community development projects. By engaging in various activities, including patient care, administrative tasks, and health education, volunteers will not only gain invaluable hands-on experience but also contribute to the improvement of healthcare and community support in a marginalized community. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Batwa culture, learning about their history, traditions, and customs.
The program’s multifaceted approach extends beyond healthcare, encompassing community outreach initiatives, sustainable livelihood projects, and community development programs. Volunteers will support the development of agriculture and crafts, promoting economic empowerment and self-sufficiency. By participating in this program, individuals will not only enhance their career prospects but also develop a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding marginalized communities. Ultimately, they will contribute to fostering a lasting legacy of positive change
Program Requirements:
To participate in our program, volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have good physical and mental health. They must also be able to commit to a minimum of 1 week and have basic medical knowledge or experience (desirable). Flexibility and willingness to support the community.
Program Cost:
- The program cost starts from $2,900 for 1 week per person including all transportation and Full Board Accommodation only. Please note that all funds paid by volunteers go directly towards supporting the Batwa Indigenous Empowerment Organization Medical Clinic. Additionally, Africa Sustainable Journey also contributes to the clinic through sustainable donations, ensuring the long-term impact of our program.
