Home Stay Experience in Rwanda and Uganda

Africa Sustainable Journeys organizes home stays with carefully selected host families in different regions of Uganda and Rwanda. Our goal is to provide an immersive cultural experience, allowing you to learn about and engage with local communities. By staying with a host family, you will gain a deeper understanding of the local way of life, traditions, and customs. Our host families are chosen for their warm hospitality, willingness to share their culture, and commitment to providing a safe and comfortable living environment.

What to Expect

When you stay with one of our host families, you can expect a warm and welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you arrive, you will be treated like a member of the family. Your host family will provide you with a comprehensive orientation to the household, including meal times, chores, and local customs. 

Cultural Immersion

One of the most rewarding aspects of our home stay experience is the cultural immersion. You will have the opportunity to participate in daily activities alongside your host family, such as shopping from local markets, farming, fetching water, cooking, and crafting. You will learn about local traditions, customs, and values, and gain a deeper understanding of the local way of life. Our host families are passionate about sharing their culture and way of life with you, and you will have plenty of opportunities to engage in lively discussions and share stories. Whether you're interested in learning about local farming practices, traditional cooking methods, or cultural customs, our host families are happy to teach and share their knowledge.

Home-Cooked Meals

Mealtimes are an integral part of our home stay experience. You will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Ugandan and Rwandan cuisine, prepared with love and care by your host family. Using fresh ingredients from their garden, your host family will prepare delicious meals that showcase the local flavors and cuisine. You will also have the opportunity to assist with meal preparation and cooking, if you wish. This is a great way to learn about local ingredients, cooking techniques, and meal etiquette.

Comfortable Accommodation

Our host families provide clean, safe, and comfortable accommodation within their homes. You will have a private room with basic amenities, and access to shared facilities. Our host families take great pride in their homes and ensure that they are clean and well-maintained. You will experience the local living standards and amenities, and enjoy the tranquility of rural life, away from the hustle and bustle of cities.

Language and Communication

Language and communication are essential aspects of our home stay experience. Our host families speak the local languages, and basic English. You will have the opportunity to learn basics.
