We'll start the day with an early morning pick-up from your hotel, followed by a scenic drive to Lubaga Cathedral, one of the most beautiful and historic Catholic landmarks in Uganda. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by the stunning architecture of the cathedral, a masterpiece that reflects the country's rich history and faith.

The cathedral's history dates back to the late 19th century when the land was donated to the Catholic missionaries by Kabaka Mwanga II in 1890. The current cathedral was built between 1914 and 1925, after several previous churches on the site were destroyed. Notably, three popes have visited Lubaga Cathedral: Pope Paul VI in 1969, Pope John Paul II in 1993, and Pope Francis in 2015. During his visit, Pope John Paul II planted a tree in the courtyard and inaugurated a memorial clock near the parish entrance.

The cathedral is also home to the remains of Archbishop Joseph Kiwanuka, the first African Catholic Bishop and Archbishop of Kampala. As we explore the cathedral, you'll gain a deeper understanding of its significance in Ugandan history and culture, and appreciate the beauty and tranquility of this sacred space.

After exploring the historic Lubaga Cathedral, we'll proceed to the Mengo Parliament, the seat of the Buganda Kingdom's government. Located in the heart of Kampala, the Mengo Parliament is a significant cultural and historical landmark that showcases the rich heritage of the Buganda Kingdom.

The Mengo Parliament is an important symbol of the Buganda Kingdom's autonomy and self-governance. The parliament building is a blend of traditional and modern architecture, reflecting the kingdom's history and its efforts to preserve its cultural identity. As we visit the Mengo Parliament, you'll learn about the history and significance of the Buganda Kingdom and its parliamentary system.

The Kabaka's Palace is not only a historical site but also a vibrant cultural center, hosting various events and ceremonies throughout the year. As we visit the palace, you'll gain insight into the cultural and traditional practices of the Buganda Kingdom, including its music, dance, and customs.

Next, we'll visit the iconic Gaddafi Mosque, one of the most prominent landmarks in Kampala. This beautiful mosque was built in 2006 with the support of Muammar Gaddafi, the former Libyan leader, and is one of the largest mosques in Uganda.

The Gaddafi Mosque is not only an important place of worship but also a stunning architectural marvel. Its design combines modern and traditional elements, with a striking minaret that offers breathtaking views of the city. You'll have the chance to take in the panoramic views of Kampala and appreciate the mosque's intricate details.

Next, we'll visit the Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the burial grounds of the Kabakas of Buganda. The tombs are a significant cultural and historical site, showcasing the rich heritage of the Buganda Kingdom.

The Kasubi Tombs were built in 1882 and are the final resting place of four Kabakas: Muteesa I (1837-1884), Mwanga II (1884-1888 and 1889-1897), Daudi Chwa II (1897-1939), and Sir Edward Muteesa II (1939-1969). As we explore the tombs, you'll learn about the history and significance of these monarchs and their roles in shaping the Buganda Kingdom.

The site is a sacred place for the Baganda people, and it's a unique opportunity to learn about the kingdom's traditions and customs. Although the tombs were largely destroyed by a fire in 2010, reconstruction efforts have since restored the site to its former glory. Today, the Kasubi Tombs remain an important part of Buganda's history and identity.

Next, we'll visit the Namugongo Shrine, a significant Catholic pilgrimage site in Uganda. The shrine is dedicated to the Uganda Martyrs, a group of 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican converts who were martyred between 1885 and 1887 for their faith during the reign of Kabaka Mwanga II.

The Uganda Martyrs were a group of young men who converted to Christianity and refused to renounce their faith, even when faced with death. Charles Lwanga and his companions were canonized as saints by Pope Paul VI in 1964.

The Namugongo Shrine was built in 1969 to commemorate the Uganda Martyrs and has since become a major pilgrimage site. Pope Paul VI visited the shrine in 1969, and it has been a significant site for Catholic pilgrims ever since. The shrine's architecture is a blend of modern and traditional styles, with a striking design that reflects the country's rich cultural heritage.

As we conclude our visit to the Namugongo Shrine, we'll take a moment to reflect on the significance of this site. After this stop, we'll retire and transfer to your pickup location, marking the end of our tour.
