Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and begin your journey north using Rwanda’s shared public minibus transport system. Arrive in Kinigi at the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes and transfer to your artisan homestay, where you will be welcomed by your host family. Spend the evening settling in and experiencing a warm cultural introduction to rural life.

Today is dedicated to immersive community living with your artisan host family and surrounding village community.

After breakfast, participate in daily rural activities alongside your hosts. These may include collecting water from a nearby spring, assisting with food preparation, visiting a local market, and engaging in seasonal farming activities such as planting or harvesting.

This experience offers meaningful cultural exchange and insight into everyday rural livelihoods, traditions, and community resilience.

Enjoy a traditional home-cooked lunch with your host family, providing time for storytelling and cultural connection.

In the afternoon, join a local weaving cooperative for a hands-on artisan workshop. Learn how natural fibers are prepared and transformed into handcrafted products while working alongside skilled women artisans. After an early breakfast, transfer by local motorcycle taxi (moto) to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a conservation briefing.

Accompanied by experienced park rangers, embark on a trek through the montane rainforest in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. Once located, spend one unforgettable hour observing these endangered great apes in their natural habitat while learning about ongoing conservation efforts that protect them and support surrounding communities.

Following the trek, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village, a community-led conservation initiative that empowers former poachers through alternative livelihoods. Through cultural performances, traditional dance, storytelling, and demonstrations, learn how conservation and community development are closely linked in this region.

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Kigali using shared public minibus transport, travelling alongside local passengers through Rwanda’s scenic countryside.

Continue to Kimironko Market, one of Kigali’s busiest local markets, where you can experience everyday urban trade, fresh produce, crafts, and textiles.

Enjoy lunch at a local Rwandan restaurant, offering a final taste of authentic cuisine and hospitality.

In the evening, transfer to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
